Name: Joey "The Bomb" Berthiaume
Age/Class: "AA" Pro
Hometown: East Bethel, Minnesota
Birthday: August 26, 1988

Joey started racing ABA in July of 1998. He turned expert in early January of 1999. His first full year racing, he earned his first district #1 plate.

The year 2000 was his first year to begin attending national events. Joey won six national races to earn him his first NAG plate, (NAG 8). He also won the Minnesota State Championship and an open jacket award the same year.

2001 proved to be a good year for Joey. He started racing cruiser for the first time. Not only did he win the ABA World Championship in cruiser class, but also finished the year NAG 2 on cruiser. Joey won the MN State title on both bikes as well as earning an open and Top Gun jacket. He finished the year with a NAG 6 on 20” class.

2002 started off to be a good year for Joey. He picked up his first full factory ride from Standard Byke Company. Due to some personal conflicts, his stay was quite short with SBC. A lot was going on in Joey's life, and thus his racing suffered. He still managed to hang on to a NAG #7 in 20" class, and NAG 5 for cruiser. He also won the Minnesota State Championship Title.

2003 was more tragedy for Joey's racing career. Sitting NAG 5 mid-summer, Joey suffered a broken collarbone shortly after the Land O' Lakes Nationals, forcing him to miss some key races. Knowing that his chances to place well in overall year end standings, Joey decided it was time to take a break from the sport and pursue his love of dirt jumping.

In 2004 Joey raced for the JBL Bike Shop Team and won the 15-16 Expert Open, and the 16X class at R.O.C., as well as winning the 16X class at Grands to give him the year end NAG 1, and a spot on the factory REDMAN/YAMAHA WAVERUNNER Team.

Joey continued to ride well in 2005 as he won the ABA World championship race in Ontario, CA as well as many nationals across the country. Bad luck in the semi-mains at the ABA grands caused Joey to drop back in points and finish the year NAG 5. Joey felt that he was riding stronger than ever and this would be the right time to jump in with the big boys and join the ranks of the pros.

His true love for the sport will never die. Joey also enjoys working with younger riders, and plans on teaching several clinics this summer. We would like to extend a great big thank you to not only this year's sponsors, but also all of Joey's previous sponsors and fans that helped him be the rider he is today!!!
